Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some helpful answers to common questions about our services.

A neuropsychological evaluation is a set of tests that assess various cognitive functions like memory, attention, and problem-solving. It can help identify conditions such as ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities. Assessments are tailored to each individual to best understand their unique needs.

The evaluation typically takes between 4 to 6 hours, depending on the individual case. It is often conducted over one session. We aim to make this process as comfortable as possible for our clients and their families.  Sometimes, testing will not be completed on the same day, and another session (usually an afternoon) will be scheduled shortly thereafter to ensure testing is completed.

Evaluations can benefit children and adults who are experiencing academic challenges, attention difficulties, social challenges, psychological distress, or other concerns. Parents looking for insight into their child’s behavior, or adults seeking clarity on their psychosocial, occupational, or learning needs may find this service useful.

The results are shared in a detailed report that outlines findings and recommendations. This report can be used to guide educational plans, therapy options, and support services tailored to your specific needs. We will review the results together in a follow-up session.

A neuropsychological evaluation report is always provided (except when specifically requested by the client not to provide one) and serves as documentation for Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan requests, accommodations in the classroom, classroom and standardized test accommodations (SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT), occupational accommodations (for example, for individuals with autism to minimize sensory overload), residential requests such as having a therapy pet, and various other requests that involve advocating for equality for individuals with brain-related conditions, neurodiversity and specific learning disabilities.

Many insurance plans cover neuropsychological evaluations to some extent. We are in-network with Magellan Health Plans.  We also accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and FSA cards as payment.  For out-of-network benefits, upon your request, we will provide a superbill for reimbursement from your insurance provider after the evaluation is complete and paid in full. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your options. As a courtesy to our clients and families, our staff can assist with any questions related to billing and insurance claims, but we do not process insurance claims in-house.

You can schedule an appointment by contacting our office directly by phone, by email at hello@athenslighthouse.com, or by completing our contact form. We are here to help guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

We accept Health Savings Account (HSA)/FSA cards, Care Credit, major credit cards, check and cash.

Half of payment is due during the first (intake and testing) session.  The remaining balance will be due during your feedback appointment, which you may schedule at any time at least 2 weeks following your intake and testing appointment.

When you come for your appointment, please bring any relevant medical history, previous evaluations, or educational records if available. This information can help us better understand your background and needs.
